Manoir des Trembles

Recommendation CT-2026-11

CONSIDERING THAT

  • The residential sector known as Manoir des Trembles was named Birch-Manor in 1965 during the development of a first housing project by the group Mervin Greenberg Ltd.;
  • The name Birch-Manor was made official by the Commission de toponymie du Québec in 1968, then replaced by the form Birch Manor following the adoption of the new linguistic policy of the Commission de toponymie du Québec;
  • The name Birch Manor is listed in the Banque de noms de lieux du Québec of the Commission de toponymie du Québec, the Base de données toponymiques du Canada as well as in the public map fund of the Municipal Services of the City of Gatineau;
  • The developer suggested, on January 17, 1977, to replace the English designation Birch Manor with the name Manoir des Trembles and that this name has since been commonly used by the developer and the City of Hull to designate this project;
  • The Association des citoyens du Manoir des Trembles, which brings together owners and residents of the Manoir des Trembles, was incorporated on January 29, 1984;
  • The name Manoir des Trembles has never been adopted by the municipal council of the City of Hull and it has never been made official by the Commission de toponymie du Québec, which explains its absence in official directories;

The Toponymy Committee recommends that the executive committee approve the designation Manoir des Trembles to replace Birch Manor.
